 NEW
YORK (Quannum Projects) - New York-based hip-hop duo Apsci is set to
release their worldwide debut Thanks For Asking on July 26th via
Quannum Projects. Apsci is comprised of Bronx-born producer/MC Raphael
LaMotta and classically-trained vocalist Dana Diaz-Tutaan, who hails
originally from Sydney, Australia. Apsci fuses a broad range of
influences from 70s Krautrock to 80s hip-hop to 90s indie rock. Live
instruments co-mingle with glitch-laden driving beats, over which Ra's
gruff erudition plays counterpoint to Dana's staccato chatter and
cacophonic wail. Recorded across five continents over two years, Thanks
For Asking was mixed by Apsci in their home studio in Brooklyn, NY. Blackalious
mixmaster and label co-owner Chief Xcel spearheaded the process of
linking Apsci up with Quannum Projects. "For 15 years we have been
pushing our own musical boundaries, and Apsci compliment the Quannum
aesthetic perfectly - they are willing to take risks but never at the
expense of great composition." LaMotta and Diaz-Tutaan shine as
producers, lyricists and performers on Thanks For Asking, an album
whose landscape blends experimentation with songcraft. Their album
hosts a myriad of guests as eclectic as their sound itself, including
Mr. Lif/Perceptionists, Tunde/TV On The Radio, Martin Perna/Antibalas
and label mates Pigeon John and VURSATYL/Lifesavas. Apsci has captured
a sweeping range of moods throughout the album's 17 tracks, like an
audio journal of the husband-wife duo's worldly travels, each track
evoking a different place in time. Apsci will be embarking on a
North American tour this summer to showcase material from Thanks For
Asking. Over the past several years, the duo has performed to thousands
of fans throughout Australia and Europe, as well as locally in New
York. Their live set-up impeccably translates the record's unique
palette of sounds to a fast-paced, energetic and harmonious show,
featuring beats by DJ Big Wiz and Guy Licata on drums.
