New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Bryan Ferry releases 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1974,' the full-length recording of an historic live performance from his first-ever solo tour, via BMG.
'Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1974' marks the first time that audio from this show is available to the public, and features scorching live performances of songs from Ferry's first two solo studio albums, including renditions of The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil," Lesley Gore's "It's My Party," and other favorites from Ferry's sphere of influence. The backing band for the Albert Hall set included Ferry/Roxy
Music associates Phil Manzanera (guitar), John Porter (guitar, musical director), Eddie Jobson (piano, violin), John Wetton (bass), Paul Thompson (drums), Chris Mercer (saxophone), plus a 33-piece orchestra conducted by Martyn Ford. In its original review, Rolling Stone called the show "stunning," adding "Ferry gives old songs new dimension."
A highlight from 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1974' is Ferry's take on
Dorothy Dickson's "These Foolish Things," which appeared on his debut solo album of the same name, released in 1973. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU7Z2XP6ROk
In the years since Ferry gave this legendary performance, he has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, and in 2019 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Roxy Music.
Bryan Ferry will return to Royal Albert Hall for two nights to celebrate the release of 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1974' on March 11th and 13th, during which he'll perform songs from the 1974 set. He will announce additional tour dates soon.
