New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Composer/multi-instrumentalist Jeff Parker & The New Breed - Josh Johnson (saxophone, synth, keyboard), Paul Bryan (bass, synth), and Makaya McCraven (drums, sampler) - begin a six-city, seven-date tour of the United States at Gold Diggers in Los Angeles on Thursday. The shows continue in Portland, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, and Miami, culminating with a set at Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 27.
Jeff Parker's new album, Suite for Max Brown, released in January on International Anthem and Nonesuch Records, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Current Contemporary Jazz Chart and has received widespread critical acclaim. Pitchfork gave it a Best New
Music review, saying: "The veteran guitarist has created an effortlessly detailed album, full of tradition and experimentation that spans generations. It lives at the vanguard of new jazz music." The Quietus says: "It's an album that if you take it at face value will delight, but if you stick around and penetrate its surface, you'll find one of the most transfixing albums in recent years."
