New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Over the weekend, New Zealand songwriter Nadia Reid - following the Friday release of her Spacebomb Records debut Out Of My Province - appeared on NPR Weekend Edition to discuss finding solace and songs in the Amalfi Coast, and her now itinerant lifestyle following the breakthrough success of her 2017 album Preservation.
Out Of My Province, produced by Trey Pollard (Foxygen) and Matthew E. White (Natalie Prass, The Mountain Goats), unquestionably exemplifies Nadia's impeccable songwriting abilities as she examines the unique challenges of globetrotting existence: the many difficulties of maintaining relationships, the strain of being on the road, and the melancholic beauty of travel.
The album is already receiving high praise: NPR
Music deemed it "gorgeous," while Uncut says, "These songs recall the greats while also plotting a map of the future." MOJO has already named it their Album Of The Month for March — see more praise below.
On Friday, Nadia released a video for "Oh Canada," an ode to Canada and its musical legacy — including some of her favourite artists like
Joni Mitchell and
Rufus and Martha Wainwright — that also interrogates the friction and resentment that poisoned a relationship with another artist. Watch here: https://youtu.be/AEezVTnGuZE
Out Of My Province follows the breakthrough success of 2017 release Preservation, which was named MOJO's #2 album of that year and led to a performance on Later...with Jools Holland.
Nadia Reid will play at Rough Trade NYC before embarking on an extensive European tour. Full dates below.
