LOS ANGELES (L.A. Weekly/ www.laweekly.com) - L.A. Weekly's 2005 Music Awards take place at 8:00pm at The Music Box at The Fonda, in Hollywood, CA. The 7th annual awards show celebrates the diversity of Los Angeles talent in categories ranging from Best Rock Band to Best Latin Artist to Best Radio Show and Best Electronic Experimental Artist. The show will feature live performances by punk legends X (who will receive a lifetime achievement award from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea); 9-piece Latin-reggae rhythm-kings Quinto Sol; robotic rappers 8-Bit; and a special performance by indie-rock heroine Petra Haden. Also honored will be the 2005 L.A. Weekly Lifetime Achievement Award winners: Jeff Barry, Brian Wilson, and Rodney Bingenheimer.

The evening will be hosted by comic J. Keith van Straaten (of ACME Comedy Theater's "What's My Line? Live On Stage"), with special appearances by the Derby Dolls roller derby team and go-go dancers from Deja Vu Showgirls. Awards presenters will include N.Y. Times best-selling author Pamela Des Barres, heart-throb rockers Rooney, America's most listened-to morning radio host Piolin (KSCA "LA Nueva" 101.9FM), and Bad Religion guitarist Greg Hetson. Attendees can even receive rock 'n roll haircuts from Cazzie and Ray of Gorgeous salon. DJ-ing during the awards show will be KCRW's Gary Calamar, with Spinderella (Salt 'n Pepa/100.3 The Beat FM) at the decks for the roof-top after-party.

The 2005 L.A. Weekly Music Awards is sponsored in part by Scion, Miller Lite, S Guaro, Monster Energy Drink, Cabo Wabo, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and Cha Cha Cha. The Music Box at The Fonda is located at 6126 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles.

In conjunction with the 2005 Music Awards, L.A. Weekly publishes its annual Music Issue today, June 9th. Focusing on local talent, the L.A. Weekly Music Issue pays tribute to the music and musicians that make Los Angeles the epicenter of the music industry. The Music Issue is available at distribution points throughout Los Angeles as well as on the web at laweekly.com.
