New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Soulection, the acclaimed indie music platform, label, radio show and collective of DJs and producers, are back at it for 2020. After achieving new milestones in 2019 - Soulection
Radio becoming Apple Music's Beats 1's longest-running specialty show with now over 450 episodes, Soulection DJs being the first "collective" to be billed at Coachella, the "Sound of Tomorrow" global tour - 2020 will be a year full of new music and highlighting one of the LA group's most beloved initiatives: Soulection Records.
From 2012 through 2015, Soulection Records consistently released new music from artists like Sango, Xavier Omar, Monte Booker, Che Ecru, Dpat, Atu and Sam Gellaitry that helped grow Soulection into what it is today. Nearly a decade later, Soulection honors that era by announcing its initial releases for 2020, featuring new music and content by some of its most beloved members: Tay Iwar, Juls & Sango, Mansur Brown, and more.
Last week, Nigerian sensation Tay Iwar released his "
Monica" visuals exclusively on TIDAL, the latest in the two platform's new visual series embodying discovery, emotions and storytelling; Expect more from Tay throughout this year. Soulection Records released Iwar's debut LP, Gemini, last year.
Later this month, Soulection Records will release a new EP by Juls & Sango. The EP channels the sunny and feel-good spirit that Soulection has become known for: tropical Afro rhythms, brass and strums, an emphasis on a strong groove, and a feeling of genuine musicianship and community between all collaborators.
"I can't wait for the world to hear the music that our artists have been creating," says Soulection Founder Joe Kay. "This is a new era for Soulection Records. We're bringing the sound back home; back to our roots. We've been fine tuning our sound and roster for the last 5+ years and we're excited to relaunch Soulection Records with new music from artists who we love and believe in. Soulection has one of the most educated musical audiences one can ask for and it's only right we give the people that champion sound that we've been teasing in our live sets and performances. This is the most locked in and focused group of team members that I've been around in all my years. We're working in unison and we all believe in one another. It's about that time, stay tuned."
Soulection already has had a busy 2020. They've been hosting several Instagram Live Sessions and Sunday DJ sets on Twitch, bringing their feel-good gatherings directly to fans at home and keeping in touch and communicating with music lovers during the current pandemic. Kay himself has shared a special four-hour isolation "Worldwide Jam Session" on Boiler Room TV and continues to DJ for listeners on various platforms; a testament to Soulection's unique flexibility within the industry. Last week, SoundCloud debuted its first Twitch live program, "Studio Sessions with Soulection" hosted by Kay, where they both promoted SoundCloud's new weekly live Twitch series, "Cloud Bar."
The rest of the year will be celebrating Soulection's talented team while looking ahead its next decade. Stay tuned.
Since 2011, Soulection has been a cornerstone of creativity for innovative musicians, crate-digging DJs, and open-minded fans from across the world. What began as an independent radio show has since blossomed into a global community of artists and audiences, united in a borderless, genre-bending, musical movement. Over the past eight years, their grassroots expansion is a model of what happens when one stays true to their roots in the constantly evolving digital age of music. From putting out independent releases with producers like Ta-ku, Sango, Dpat, and Atu on Bandcamp to being the first collective invited to play Coachella, Soulection's growth has been organic and fruitful.
