NEW YORK (Family Standards/ www.familystandards.com) - New York resident
Tamara O'Leary, the critically acclaimed cabaret singer, released her debut CD, Moon Soup, on May 8, 2005. This extraordinary recording, produced by
Tamara O'Leary and Tom McCoy, is a surprising collection of kid-friendly songs by some of the Great American Songbook's most beloved composers and lyricists. The CD is being released through her newly formed record label Family Standards, LLC, and is available now at
www.cdbaby.com,
www.amazon.com and Tower Records.
With selections by Cole Porter, Henri Mancini, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Sammy Cahn, among others, MOON SOUP delightfully achieves what may have seemed incompatible goals in presenting children's music: to combine intelligent songwriting, with fresh jazz-pop interpretations on a recording as appealing and appropriate for children as for their parents.
Produced in partnership with Cold Spring, New York resident, Tom McCoy, Moon Soup raises the bar on the presentation of family entertainment. Conceived in a serendipitous moment while Tamara was singing to her young daughters and their friends, Moon Soup includes a few very worthy and well known songs from the world of youth oriented films, including Aladdin, which aired on CBS in 1958 and Cinderella, which was presented on television on March 31, 1957, as well as the wonderful 'Goodnight God' from the repertoire of Fred (Mister) Rogers. But it is O'Leary's use of grown up songs such as the exquisite Mercer/Mancini composition, 'Moon River' and the whimsical Mercer/Whiting song, 'Have You Got Any Castles, Baby?' that transforms her concept into a beautiful tribute to the versatility of youth and music. So many parents are just weary of songs about fruit salad and dental hygiene!' In a world where themes and concepts make great sense in marketing, Tamara O'Leary has artfully realized a great idea.
