Grammy-Winning Austin Producer & Artist Malik Releases New Singles "Green" And "Blue"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, 24-year-old GRAMMY-winning producer & artist MALIK (Ariana Grande, Earthgang, JID) releases two singles "Green" and "Blue," the latest sonic landscapes from his debut project Spectrum (Demo), out August 21st via ARTium Recordings, the label run by his mentor, No I.D.

The two new tracks are sonic contrasts, yet there is a sibling-like connection. "Green" is hectic and fast paced, with vocals and heady production coming at the listener from all angles with something to prove. "Blue," meanwhile, slows down, and is a soft drift into an alternate universe. One is stark and yearns for recognition. The other is mysterious and questioning. One is talking. The other is listening.

Here's MALIK on both songs:
"[On 'Green'] my mind speeds up thinking about how urgently I want to be accepted. I feel like an outcast. But life has a way of humbling you. Either it breaks you down, or makes you stronger. Often both. [On 'Blue'], 'Green' slows down half-time like a crash after a caffeine boost. Because of the rate I was running my mind, my mind is now clouded and fatigued. As I fly my spaceship through a Blade Runner-esque dystopian cityscape, I begin to question everything that my world is structured by. Google is your friend right?"

Each song on Spectrum (Demo) - which Malik describes as "a sort of musical take on Pixar's Inside Out, if it were as heavily influenced by Outkast, Graduation-era Kanye West, Days Before Rodeo-era Travis Scott, Acid Rap Chance the Rapper, and Nostalgia, UltraFrank Ocean, as I was" - is named after a specific color and channels its energy and purpose. Recently, Malik released "Red," an exploration of healthy anger that Pigeons & Planes called "A piece with much of the swung, post Sa-Ra soul that popped up on the internet in the height of the Tumblr era." Other released tracks off the new project include "Orange," the hopeful reflection the morning after, and "Yellow," Spectrum (Demo)'s sunny, refreshing highpoint.

In Austin Chronicle's profile on the rising hometown star, which explores everything from which PS2 games inspired Malik to get into beat-making to his current favorite color (right now), Spectrum (Demo) is hailed as "a singular effort written, recorded, mixed, and even mastered by its conceptualist."
