Motley Crue Joins
Stellar Line-Up for July 2 Concert @ Park Place in Barrie, Ont., for Canadian Arm of Live 8 Worldwide Concert Event, Will Preview Portions of Their Upcoming 55-Date North American "Carnival of Sins" Tour
Despite erroneous media reports to the contrary, Motley Crue has officially joined the star-studded line-up of artists that will perform as part of the "Live 8: The Long Walk To Justice" concerts on July 2, at the Toronto portion of the worldwide music event at Park Place in Barrie, Ontario.
Fresh off their sold-out, acclaimed tour of Europe, the band will preview portions of their upcoming "Carnival of Sins" North American tour, which gets underway July 26 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA. They will join an international roster that includes some of the biggest artists in music to support the campaign created to pressure world leaders at the upcoming G8 Conference to "Make Poverty History."
And while Live 8 promoter Harvey Goldsmith told the press about the London show, "There are artists whom I'd loved to have been on, like Motley Crue, who came too late," the reality is the band weren't even scheduled to be in the U.K. at the time. Instead, they will be in Canada, where they'll participate in the Toronto segment of the global concert.
Crue's Nikki Sixx said, "We are honored to be invited to perform at Live 8 in Toronto. Motley Crue is excited to participate in Bob Geldof's global effort to end poverty around the world." Added the band's Mick Mars: "We are proud to make history as a small part of this momentous event."
Motley Crue will join forces with an incredible line-up of artists, including Bryan Adams, Barenaked Ladies, Deep Purple, Bruce Cockburn, Simple Plan, The Tragically Hip and Gordon Lightfoot for the Canadian arm of Live 8. This once-in-a-lifetime array of artists will also be beamed via satellite feeds from the Live 8 concerts in London, Paris, Rome, Toronto, Berlin and Philadelphia. The international roster of artists includes Pink Floyd, U2, Sir Paul McCartney, Destiny's Child, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, REM, Sting, Andrea Bocelli, Jay-Z, Green Day, Lauren Hill, Roxy Music and more. Motley Crue will then hit the road beginning July 26 in Irvine, CA, for the 55-date North American "Carnival of Sins" tour with special guests Sum 41, The Exies and Silvertide. The band's recent sell-out "Red, White & Crue Tour 2005... Better Live Than Dead," brought Motley Crue back to the forefront of the music scene with an insane array of fire-breathing midgets, aerial displays and assorted circus freaks.
The band continues to fight for its rights as part of an ongoing lawsuit against NBC for selectively discriminating against the group after singer Vince Neil inadvertently uttered a profanity on national television New Year's Eve. Programming chief Jeff Zucker banned the group from appearing on the network in part to placate the FCC, even though the incident occurred after midnight, designated by the Commission as a safe haven. Artists such as System of a Down, U2's Bono and racing car driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., avoided any repercussions from the network for similar misjudgments. The case has drawn the outspoken support of several rights organizations, including Creative Voices (www.creative voices.us).
