LOS ANGELES (Geffen Records/ www.riseagainst.com) - They say it's lonely at the top, but so what? For the first time in their career, Geffen band
Rise Against has topped an important national chart, breaking through to No 1 on Billboard's New Artist chart last week with total sales now approaching million. The band's new CD "Siren Song Of The Counter-Culture" has built momentum steadily through the support of die-hard and the Top 25 (and climbing)
Modern Rock hit "Swing Life Away." The good news coincides with a new string of U.S. club dates with fellow Chicagoans
Alkaline Trio (see below for itinerary) beginning Saturday, July 9th.
In addition to the success of current single "Swing Life Away," Rise Against's debut single "Give It All" emerged as a national radio hit earlier this year. But longtime fans don't need to worry that the band is going soft with all this success. They are still as hard edged and as politically pissed- off as ever before (their website has a running tally of the cost of the Iraq War - latest count: $179, 161, 500).
The band has drawn rave reviews from key publications. Rolling Stone praised the band's "rousing, intelligent fury," while Alternative Press said "the band's engrossing hardcore is an urgent siren song that's appropriate for these angst-ridden, uncertain times."
Rise Against is comprised of vocalist Tim McIlrath, bassist Joe Principe, drummer
Brandon Barnes and guitarist Chris Chasse. In spring 2001, the quartet released their debut CD "The Unraveling" on Fat Wreck Chords. After two years of touring,
Rise Against recorded "
Revolutions Per Minute" (2002). "Siren Song Of The Counter-Culture" was produced by Gggarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Chevelle, Sick Of It All) at his Vancouver studio.
