Singer/Songwriter Ari Herstand Releases Pensive New Single "Drifting"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, singer/songwriter, entrepreneur and best-selling music business author Ari Herstand releases his new single "Drifting." The new single captures the pivotal moment of regaining one's power and pulling yourself through heartbreak.
"Drifting" highlights a crucial moment in the breakup process: moving on. Melancholic overtones paired with Ari's somber lyricism paint a picture of the depths of desolation; "Would it bring some peace to know that I'm hurting too," he asks his former love. In the end, however, "Drifting" sets the scene for a transitional moment. "Slowly the mornings aren't as cold / Let the time pass by."

On "Drifting" and the aftermath of his 11 year relationship that inspired 'Like Home,' Ari says, "When we broke up… it was a complete mind fuck. I had to go on living as if life was normal. The thing that hit me the oddest was my concept of time. I had no grasp on time. It was the weirdest sensation I had ever experienced. I realized I wasn't ok and needed to move forward."

Ari's new album 'Like Home,' out April 9th, is a soul-bearing autobiography that tells the tale of navigating one's way through heartbreak. A six-song project born out of 40 demos created during his grieving process, 'Like Home' explores the idea of what "home" means and where to find it once the concept has been shattered. The end product is a masterful collection of works that unveils a deeper side of Ari, who has made a name for himself teaching independent artists how to succeed in the music business through his blog Ari's Take and the subsequent book and podcast series.

Described by Forbes as "the poster child of DIY music," the LA-via-Minneapolis Ari Herstand is an entrepreneur, musician, best-selling author, educator, advocate and authority on how to succeed as an independent musician. He has collaborated with acts like Cake, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Ben Folds, and his music has appeared in TV shows, commercials and films. His book How To Make It in the New Music Business is a #1 best-seller in three categories on Amazon and taught by over 300 universities across the country. Recently, Ari co-founded the UnCancelled Music Festival, which Rolling Stone called "the most recent - and one of the larger - of the online music events that have sparked up since COVID-19 put a temporary hold on the live music industry," as well as advocacy group Independent Music Professionals United (IMPU), where Ari helped write and pass the amendment to get the music industry an exemption under the "gig worker" law AB5. At the helm of his blog Ari's Take, Ari empowers musicians through the Ari's Take Academy online music business school and the New Music Business podcast. He also hosts a weekly music industry forum on Clubhouse on Monday nights.
