New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Earlier today Joywave released their song After Coffee, a contemplative and collective sigh set to music, ruminating over the pleasures of the mundane. The song comes almost a year to the day that the Rochester-based alt/rock band released their third album, POSSESSION, on March 13, 2020 the day the world shut down and what the band called the worst possible day.
While not a pandemic song, the sentiment is relatable. Notes Joywave frontman
Daniel Armbruster, Some listeners will undoubtedly hear their own 2020 experiences in the lyrics, but to me its just waking up, pouring the coffee, petting the cat, and enjoying the silence. This revelation came about as the bands tour plans came to a halt and they found themselves off the road and at home for an extended period of time a first since the release of their debut album HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW? In 2015.
The band
Daniel Armbruster: Vocals * Paul Brenner:
Drums * Joseph Morinelli: Guitar*
Benjamin Bailey: keyboard, guitar, vocals have been separated since lockdown and are looking forward to unleashing more music, more innovative creative visuals and getting back to performing live this year.
Joywave have concocted a distinctively modern approach towards music that is both organic and synthetic, much like our own day-to-day lives. The Rochester, NY-based band first came together in 2010. A series of visionary mixtapes and EPs followed, as did Big Datas RIAA platinum certified 2013 single, Dangerous (Feat. Joywave), a #1 hit at Alternative radio as well as a top 10 multi-format smash. 2014s HOW DO YOU FEEL? EP was fast followed by Joywaves full-length debut album, HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW? The LP spawned a string of multi-format hits, including Destruction, multiple versions of which were then showcased on 2016s innovative remix collection, SWISH.
The following year saw CONTENT make a top 10 debut on Billboards Heatseekers chart, powered by the Alternative radio favorites, Doubt and Its A Trip! Joywave has proved just as prolific and popular on the road, performing countless headline dates, show-stealing sets at international festivals spanning Lollapalooza, Coachella, Firefly and the UKs Reading/Leeds, and support runs with such like-minded artists as The Killers, Bastille, Young the Giant, Cold War Kids, Bleachers, Metric, Sir Sly,
Bishop Briggs and more. On March 13th, Joywave released their third album, POSSESSION, and were about to embark on a national headline tour when the world shut down.
