NEW YORK (Virgin Records) - Immortal/Virgin recording group
30 Seconds To Mars has unveiled details of their eagerly anticipated second album. "A BEAUTIFUL LIE" - the follow-up to the band's acclaimed self-titled debut - hits stores nationwide on August 30th.
First edition copies of "A BEAUTIFUL LIE" will feature a pair of secret bonus tracks, including a brand-new, previously unreleased 30STM song and an unexpected interpretation of a Bjork song. In addition, a number of lucky CD buyers will receive a special 30STM All Access tour laminate, allowing them exclusive lifetime entry into the band's live shows. Both special features are part of the band's belief in giving their fans more than just music, offering them a chance to be part of the 30STM family.
Led by singer/guitarist/songwriter Jared Leto, 30 Seconds To Mars are without question one of today's most intriguing and inventive rock outfits. The band - who has spent the summer heralding the release of "A BEAUTIFUL LIE" by touring alongside Chevelle - will be lighting up stages across America, joining the Used on their summer trek, beginning this Friday, August 19th in San Jose, California. 30STM will then set out on a series of headlining dates, as well as an assortment of high-profile radio concerts.
In addition, 30 Seconds To Mars have lined up a number of TV performances, kicking off on September 6th with an appearance on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." On October 7th, the band will appear on NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly." A 30STM performance is also slated for CBS' "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," with a broadcast date to be announced shortly.
"Attack," the dazzling first single from "A BEAUTIFUL LIE," is already bulleting up the charts at a variety of rock radio formats, including Active Rock and Alternative. An exclusive live performance of the song can be seen throughout August via Comcast High Speed Internet or Comcast Digital Cable's Music Choice.
"A BEAUTIFUL LIE" is more streamlined and inventive than 2002's much-praised debut, both in musical terms as well as in its frank and direct lyrical content. "We wanted to focus on the insides of the song," Leto says. "To cut away anything extraneous. To get to the truth of it all."
Assisting 30STM behind the board was producer Josh Abraham, known for his work with Velvet Revolver, Korn, and Linkin Park, among others. The sessions for "A BEAUTIFUL LIE" saw the band - rounded out by Leto's brother Shannon on drums, guitarist Tomo Milicevic and bassist Matt Wachter - recording in six studios around the globe, in such locales as Los Angeles, New York City, and Cape Town, South Africa.
"A BEAUTIFUL LIE" has already begun drawing rapturous reviews. "For Leto, writing songs, making albums, and touring isn't a movie-star hobby or a side project, it's a creative outlet that's as important as air and addictive as crack," declared Revolver, remarking that "...intensity and passion clearly inform the textural hard rock of 'A BEAUTIFUL LIE.'" "Jared Leto succeeds," noted MTV.com. "30 Seconds to Mars has earned itself some bone fide rock cred."
Nylon hailed "A BEAUTIFUL LIE" as "an album that is digestible without losing the rough-around-the-edges appeal that the band's rapidly expanding fan base craves," while Zink praised the 30STM for "(wearing) their hearts and integrity on their sleeves, pouring into their work to create an album that's almost operatic, full of emotion and mind-massaging intensity." "Man, can Jared Leto sing!" affirmed Jane. "Slightly apocalyptic without being dark, 30STM's brand of modern rock is charmingly free of indie overtures and is totally repeat-worthy."
Leto - who, in addition to his musical career, has acted in such films as "Fight Club," "Requiem For A Dream," "Panic Room," "American Psycho," and "Alexander" - will be seen this September in the Lions Gate Films thriller, "Lord of War." The action-adventure - co-starring Nicolas Cage and Ethan Hawke - arrives in theatres across North America on September 16th. (TOUR ITINERARY ATTACHED)
