New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Calista Kazuko releases new track 内 Uchi, following the acclaimed release of her debut album Empress in 2019. Calista produced and recorded the track at Temple Music Studio alongside Ru Lemmer and is released July 02 via iChi Ni Records.
Dramatic, sophisticated and theatrical Kazuko creates art-pop that reminds us of performance-artists Amanda Palmer and Fiona Apple. The track layers soulful harmonies and jazz elements, as inspired arrangements float over you like sparkling confetti lighting up a cinematic sky. Uchi is a celebration of the homes we carry within us and our own 'inner home.' The concept pays homage to Kazuko's Japanese roots, referencing her mother's surname 山ノ内'Yamauchi,' meaning 'home inside the mountains.'
Calista Kazuko is a multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter with a passion for creating art as a vehicle for change. Soon to become a mother herself, Calista was inspired by the stories of displaced families and unaccompanied children when working with the charity Migrant Help. The Uchi project is being released in honour of Refugee Week 2021 where team Uchihave been running musical workshops to support Migrant Help's activities.
Kazuko has also previously teamed-up with charities including Mind, Plan International and Help Refugees. She recently led a collaborative music making project with NHS staff called Notes from the Frontline, to create an album of songs in response to the pandemic, with the final film including contributions from Sting, Eric Clapton and KT Tunstall and Calista herself.
