Serving as the first single after a few years away from the music scene, "From The River" is a track that is undeniably Meekoh — an instantly recognizable artist that demonstrates his humbleness and honesty through his music. A sweeping ode to his lover, "From The River" showcases Meekoh's artistry through his velvety-smooth vocals, chill sonics, and eclectic use of his guitar. With Meekoh, once you listen to him you can't help but get swept away in his sound.
I wrote this song for the love of my life during the pandemic. She has a life threatening disease called Cystic Fibrosis which forced us to leave LA and travel to the small gold mining town of Jacksonville, Oregon.
"From The River" was penned during the pandemic when the love of his life & him were forced to leave LA and found themselves nestled in a small cottage, a place where Meekoh found peace and serenity. "It was during this time that I was able to finish writing this song which I had previously started writing over a year before the pandemic started. It all just clicked and I immediately started recording in a small makeshift studio that I made in our quaint little cottage. It embodies exactly what I feel in the deepest part of my heart. This song was performed live with real instruments because I wanted to create something that felt real and alive. A symbol of what love has given me."
Speaking of the captivating cinematic video, Meekoh states "I shot the first half of this video on the Deschutes river in my hometown of Bend, Oregon. It was my first time directing an entire music video with just a drone and also my first time floating down wild rapids while performing a song with a guitar! I had no idea where the river was going to take me which made it pretty difficult at times to get the right shot on the drone. The water was ice cold, straight from the top of snow capped mountains; it literally stole my breath away as soon as I took the plunge into the powerful current. The current swept me off my feet and immediately pulled me down the river. I was constantly trying to keep my ankles and tail bone up high because I knew if I hit a rock I was done for. To top it all off, my guitar would immediately fill with water and pull me down like a 100lb weight.
Almost every single shot was me trying my best to not die."
Anchored from his love of mellifluous songwriting and timeless melodies, Meekoh has found a way to blend Indie Folk, Reggae, Pop, and Latin music all into his own beautifully cultivated sound! This indie singer/songwriter's story began in 2009 while Busking on the streets of Bend, Oregon. Over the next few years his rise from packed dive bars and street corners quickly turned into sold out festivals and national tours. In 2017, Meekoh moved to LA and started working with some of the top people in the industry such as, Nick Demoura (Justin Bieber,
Ariana Grande), Jason Mater (Disney), HARV (Justin Bieber), Seth Reger (Bruno Mars), and
Daniel Cloud Campos (Greatest Showman).
His newest release "From the River" is a song he wrote for the love of his life. "It was also the first time I produced, wrote, and performed a song all by myself. I used real instruments on every part of the song because I wanted to create something that felt real and alive. A symbol of what love has given me." With folky acoustics, beautifully arranged strings, deep upright bass tones, Americana drums, sweeping piano notes, and smooth harmonies, this is easily one of the best indie folk songs that you'll ever hear.
With support from 1883 Magazine, Flex, and more, it's clear that Meekoh is ready to make his mark on the world and ready to share his music with everyone - even if it means getting swept up in a river to do so.
