NASHVILLE (Top 40 Charts) - Country artists dominate the music categories of the 28th Annual People's Choice Awards, announced late Tuesday (Nov. 27). There are five country acts among the nine music nominations this year.

Up for the Favorite Male Musical Performer award are Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and George Strait. Faith Hill, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez vie for the Favorite Female Musical Performer nod, while 'NSync, Backstreet Boys, and Dixie Chicks are nominated for Favorite Musical Group.

Two music acts also earned a spot in the film and TV categories -- Reba McEntire is up for Female Performer in a New Television Series for her new WB sitcom, Reba, and Lopez garnered a Favorite Actress nomination.

The bulk of the 18 awards are in film and television, where Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington lead the nominations with two apiece.

The 28th Annual People's Choice Awards will be held Jan. 13 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif., and will be hosted by Kevin James of The King of Queens. The show airs live on CBS.
