NASHVILLE, TN. - The Grand Ole Opry presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has announced the latest addition to its 80th Anniversary Signature Series, Timeless Opry, set for Sat., Oct. 22. The evening's entire hour-long Grand Ole Opry Live show on GAC: Great American Country will feature Martina McBride performing classic country songs from her upcoming album Timeless, in stores Oct. 18, while other Opry members and guest artists will also perform some of their all-time favorite country classics throughout the evening.
The original hit versions of the songs on McBride's upcoming album span a quarter century of country music from Hank Williams' 'You Win Again,' recorded in 1952, to Tammy Wynette's 1976 hit 'Til I Can Make It on My Own.' In addition to performing solo versions of select songs from the album which contains tunes that were hits for current Opry members Loretta Lynn, Jeanne Pruett, and Charlie Walker, as well as late Opry legends like Don Gibson, Hank Snow, and Ernest Tubb, McBride will also duet with Connie Smith and Ray Price, each of whom have a country classic covered in the new McBride project.
'This is a first for the Opry,' says Opry vice-president and general manager Pete Fisher. 'Showcasing Martina's extraordinary talent and these classic songs for a full hour is a perfect fit for a special Grand Ole Opry performance. Like the Opry, which has a rich history yet is very much about what is happening in country music today, Martina's incredible new album is both current and timeless.'
McBride will celebrate her 10th anniversary as an Opry member in November. She joined the cast during the taping of the show's 70th anniversary TV special, inducted by Loretta Lynn.
Timeless is McBride's eighth studio album. She has had a steady presence in the country Top 10 since 1993. Her fiery, passionate vocals have created such memorable hits as 'Independence Day,' 'Wild Angels,' 'A Broken Wing,' 'Blessed,' and 'This One's for the Girls.' She has placed nearly 20 singles in the Top 10, has sold 15 million records, and has four CMA Female Vocalist of the Year and three ACM Female Vocalist of the Year awards to her credit.
The Grand Ole Opry is presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. Opry performances are held every weekend of the year, and the Tuesday Night Opry continues now through Dec. 20, 2005. To plan a visit to the Opry, call (800) SEE-OPRY or log on to www.opry.com.
