Tempe, AZ. (Musica Nova Fine Arts String Orchestra) - Which 'Water Music'? The Musica Nova Baroque Orchestra addresses this question on Saturday October 15th at 8:00 pm at Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N 56th Street Scottsdale. The program will feature the Handel Water Music Suite no.2. in two separate versions. According to Music Director Warren Cohen, 'we will perform several movements of the Handel Water Music Suite in the composer's original version and in the early twentieth century arrangement by Hamilton Harty.' Cohen plans to ask audience members to indicate their preference; the original or the rather more fully scored 'modern' interpretation of the music. Says Cohen, 'We will take a vote and see who wins!' Performances of two Bach Brandenburg Concerti, numbers 1 and 4 will round out the afternoon. The Baroque Orchestra concert is one of a month of concerts by Musica Nova ensembles. The Musica Nova Orchestra season opens on October 8 at 8:00 pm, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1800 Libra, Tempe, with the American premier performance of Richard Arnell's Third Symphony. The Fine Arts String Orchestra will present pianist Kirill Gliadkovsky in the Shostakovich Piano Concerto no. 1. Sunday, October 23rd at 3 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4027 E Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley.
