San Francisco, CA. (VENTOS WIND QUINTET) - Ventos, a San Francisco based woodwind quintet, will be performing a challenging program of wind chamber music titled "Crossing the 'Pond:' British and American Music." The program will include music by Geoffrey Bush, Alec Wilder and Malcolm Arnold and will feature the amazing 'Quintet for Winds' by John Harbison. The concert will be presented on Friday, Nov 4th , 2005 at 8 p.m. in San Francisco at the Community Music Center at (544 Capp Street between 20th and 21st Streets, San Francisco), and again Sunday, Nov 6th, 2005 at 3 p.m. in Palo Alto at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto (505 East Charleston Road, Palo Alto). Free admission, donations gladly accepted.

This is a great opportunity to experience a live performance of the rarely performed 'Quintet for Winds' by John Harbison, which is considered one of the most difficult pieces in the wind quintet literature. Several other gems will also highlight the performance including Malcolm Arnold's 'Three Shanties' and 'Up-Tempo' from Alec Wilder's 'Quintet No 1.'

Ventos is comprised of: Jeffery Pelletier-Flute, Max Hollander- Oboe, Jeff Carwile-Clarinet, Cathleen Torres-Horn and Maria Yuin-Bassoon. Formed in January of 2005, Ventos was born out of each member's individual passion to share their artistry and inspire others while making great music as a group. Ventos (which means 'Wind' in Portuguese) aspires to engage audiences young and old with exciting performances of the classic wind quintet repertoire, transcriptions for wind quintet and performing newly composed works for the wind quintet genre.

Ventos is undertaking several major projects including but not limited to recording, touring and teaching in addition to performing concerts that are engaging and of the highest quality. If you are interested in assisting Ventos with any of these projects either through volunteering at concerts or by making a financial contribution, please visit their website at www.ventos.org and click the 'Contact Us' link.
