New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan has announced a seven-city North American tour for this fall, featuring music from StandArt, his new album of American standards. The tour, with Hamasyan's StandArt band mates, bassist Matt Bewer and drummer Justin Brown, kicks off at The Opera House in Brooklyn on November 9, with stops in Bentonville, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, and Ottawa, culminating at Koerner Hall in Toronto on November 19. The shows follow Hamasyan's summer tour of Europe. See below for all of the currently announced dates.
Produced by Hamasyan, StandArt includes songs from the 1920s through the 1950s by Charlie Parker, Richard Rodgers,
Jerome Kern, Elmo Hope, and others, plus a piece Hamasyan improvised with Brewer, Brown, and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. Guesting on the album are saxophonists Joshua
Redman and Mark Turner.
"Hamasyan is one of today's most revered and distinctive voices in jazz and creative music," says Jazziz. "StandArt finds him applying different techniques and ideas that he has developed over the years to a revered repertoire, breathing new life into well-worn songs and lesser-known gems."
