New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Thalia, the market-leading bookseller in German-speaking countries, and the Berlin-based international music company BMG are jointly presenting a new event format, The Sound of Literature. The aim is to reach new target groups for books and music.
The partnership will kick off with three events in
September at the
Thalia and Mayersche bookstores in Düsseldorf and Kassel, and at the Stadthalle in Hagen.
Prominent guests include singer, composer, and lyricist Inga Humpe and author, screenwriter, and director Helene Hegemann. Singer and author Chris Jagger will accompany the evenings musically and read from his biography Talking To Myself (BMG). The new format will be moderated by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung journalist and author Rainer Schmidt.
Ingo Kretzschmar, Chairman of the
Thalia Management Board, said: "With The Sound of Literature, we are working together with BMG to offer an exciting new event format that brings readers and music fans together in our bookstores. In this way, we not only reach new target groups for
Thalia but also attract a culturally interested audience to the city centers with our high-caliber program."
Since July, the book retailer has also been testing a selected vinyl range at locations in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Münster, and Osnabrück.
BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said: "Books and music have undergone a radical digital transformation over the past 15 years, offering consumers a completely new service. However, the haptic experience of a paperback or a vinyl record remains irreplaceable. As part of the collaboration with Thalia, we believe we can leverage on new synergies in communicating with our target group."
The event series is modeled on Salon Writers' Thursday, which was founded by Rainer
Schmidt in 2015 and has been held regularly in Berlin since then. Previous guests have included Ronja von Rönne, Campino, Alexa Hennig von Lange, Sven Regener, Heike Makatsch, Flake, and many more. BMG has supported this exclusive and popular series of events for many years. Tickets are available at
