New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Tigran Hamasyan kicks off a seven-city North American tour featuring music from StandArt, his new album of American standards, at The Opera House in Brooklyn this Wednesday, November 9. The tour, with Hamasyan's StandArt band mates, bassist Matt Bewer and drummer Justin Brown, then stops in Bentonville, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, and Ottawa, culminating at Koerner Hall in Toronto on November 19. See below for all of the currently announced dates.
To coincide with the tour launch, Hamasyan has released a short video about the making of StandArt.
"Out of all the so-called jazz standard repertoire, there are a number of compositions that really have a special place in my heart," Hamasyan says in the video. "To me they are timeless, beautiful melodies that have been with me since I was a child. I wanted to take the melodies of these standards and apply ideas that I have been developing in my earlier recordings …"
He goes on to say: "It was a true blessing to record this project with Matt Brewer with Justin Brown as the trio and have guest appearances of Ambrose Akinmusire, Mark Turner, and Joshua Redman. I'm really grateful and happy that there's a documentation of this process."
