New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The New York City native and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, Emily King, releases "False Start," the third single from her highly anticipated album Special Occasion, due out May 5 via ATO Records. Acclaimed label mate and artist Nick Hakim joins King on the track, singing to a stripped-down, soulful offering of an unfiltered yet gently spellbinding meditation on the pain of unsuccessfully trying to extract yourself from a seemingly comfortable relationship.
"I had experienced the feeling of going against my instincts, trying to quiet a voice inside me," Emily King shares. "I wrote the song one day in the studio in LA. I sat in front of the microphone and started with a line I'd had for so long, and the rest of the song all came out. It was very cathartic."
King's first album in four years, Special Occasion, features eleven dynamic tracks, including previously released singles "This Year" and "Medal," all produced by longtime collaborator and Grammy-nominee, Jeremy Most. Across the album, King shares a real-time exploration of the endless dimensions of heartbreak. Using music as a means of meditation and healing, King works through the most overwhelming emotions with ineffable grace and resilience.
Coinciding with Special Occasion's release, King will embark on a month-long North American headlining tour, kicking off on May 5 in South Orange, NJ. The tour will see King, supported by Joseph Solomon, visit esteemed venues including Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, Los Angeles' Wiltern, Atlanta's Buckhead Theater, and more. The tour concludes on May 31 with a hometown show at New York's Terminal 5. For more information and tickets, please visit: https://www.emilykingmusic.com.
