Jenny Owen Youngs Drops Delicate, Liminal Track Off Transportive, Ambient Album Meant To Soundtrack Wilderness Hikes, Out May 5, 2023
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The renowned folk artist Jenny Owen Youngs releases tranquil second single "dusk (feat. John Mark Nelson & Tancred)," off transportive, ambient album from the forest floor via OFFAIR Records/ Universal Music, out May 5th, intended to be listened to while hiking amongst woodland greenery, or imagining oneself doing so.
"dusk (feat. John Mark Nelson & Tancred)," comes off the back of glowing lead single "sunrise mtn," with praise from Stereogum, Cool Hunting, Our Culture, and more.

Youngs says of the track, "Dusk is transitional, a liminal period that carries us over the threshold from light into darkness. This song began in collaboration with Jess Abbott, who makes alternative music by turns crunchy and delicate, under the name Tancred. We sat in our home studio lit by just candles and a low-watt Edison bulb, Jess with a guitalele and me with a baritone guitar. I love these two instruments in combination because they somehow, despite having so much in common (they're both fretted, six-stringed instruments, both tuned with the same relative intervals between strings), together sound like two opposite ends of a spectrum, the baritone strange in its low rumbling, the guitalele nimble and light as it's plucked. This is a song for the hour when the sun sinks below the treeline, a song for the incredible blue glow of a sky falling dark."

The 12-track album cycles through a 24-hour period, beginning at 7am. Each piece is designed to reflect aspects of the time it's representing, from sunrise to dusk, moonset to blue hour. The earthy, hypnotic project features collaborators Hrishikesh Hirway (host of Song Exploder), John Mark Nelson (Taylor Swift, Suki Waterhouse, Devon Cole's 'W.I.T.C.H.'), and Tancred.

Jenny Owen Youngs is originally from New Jersey and has since made her way out to Los Angeles and up to Kittery, Maine. She has released numerous albums and EPs, including last year's It's Dangerous to Go Alone, and has toured worldwide with the likes of Regina Spektor, Frank Turner and Aimee Mann, among others. She recently co-wrote the chart topping, five-time platinum single "High Hopes" by Panic! At The Disco, as well as co-writing songs with Ingrid Michaelson, Pitbull, Briston Maroney, Shungudzo and others. Her solo music has been featured on TV shows such as "Weeds," "Grey's Anatomy," "Nurse Jackie" and "Bojack Horseman" and has seen praise from The AV Club, The New York Times, Stereogum and NPR. Last year, Jenny wrapped up 6 years as co-host of popular podcast, Buffering The Vampire Slayer and just launched a new podcast called The eX-Files.
