New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The genre-defying artist d4vd releases his highly anticipated debut EP Petals To Thorns via Darkroom/ Interscope/ Universal Music. Petals To Thorns is an introduction and journey into d4vd's identity as an artist that's unable to be boxed into a specific genre. Just one year after beginning to make music in his sister's closet in Houston, d4vd has delivered masterful nine-track project with familiar hits including RIAA platinum "Romantic Homicide," a grungy, guitar-driven breakup anthem, and RIAA gold "Here With Me," a slow-building beachy ballad, and new tracks showcasing his inimitable sound. The EP establishes d4vd as one of the best new emerging acts, corroborated by his recent Billboard 21 Under 21 honor.

Today, d4vd debuts a video for "The Bridge," a modern melody that draws from early 2000s pop punk, with heavy guitar riffs and palpable percussion. Its accompanying red-tinged, music video perfectly visually encapsulates d4vd's angst-filled, heartbroken lyrics.

The EP also hears d4vd partner with Icelandic pop-artist Laufey on "This Is How It Feels" an entrancing ballad, heavily rooted in storytelling with d4vd and Laufey communicating through song against twinkling piano keys. The result is something straight out of a fairytale, not dissimilar from the soundtracks of your favorite nostalgic childhood films, but with modern lyrics evocative of the love stories of today. See the full Petals To Thorns EP tracklist below.

Earlier this week, d4vd unveiled an anime video set to his breakthrough hit "Romantic Homicide" to herald the release of the EP and new merch drops. The video opens with d4vd emerging from a giant rose before fully immersing the viewer in his cinematic universe, complete with a battle with his alter ego IT4MI. "I've been working on a way to bridge the gaps in my artistry with elements of cinema. The character you see here today is named "IT4MI" which means pain in Japanese. Inspired by manga and anime he is the main antagonist of my entire project. He wears a blindfold for the sole purpose of not being held accountable for the pain he causes" d4vd explains of the character. Welcome to the introduction of the "4" characters in the d4vd universe.

d4vd emerged as a visionary artist only one year after he began writing and recording heart-piercing tracks alone in his sister's closet in Houston, Texas. d4vd gained his now-eclectic taste in rap and indie music from internet wormholes and fan-made Fortnite videos on YouTube, which he also started creating as a homeschooled teenager. As an avid player who has amassed over fifty thousand subscribers on his gaming channel, he noticed that the songs in his game montages were getting copyright strikes, and his mother suggested that he should write his own original music as a solution. This motivated d4vd to start recording his own tracks after discovering an easy-to-use music-making app called BandLab. He's released a smattering of singles touching everything from indie-alternative to pop to R&B, and the 18-year-old, born David Burke, scored a breakout hit in summer 2022 with the melancholic indie rock song "Romantic Homicide," whose brutally honest lyrics about heartbreak and resentment have connected with hundreds of thousands of listeners. His slow-building beachy ballad, "Here With Me" also climbed the charts, establishing d4vd as a genre-defying newcomer. d4vd's intuitive command of lyricism stems from his years of scribbling raps and poems in his journal since childhood and his versatile interests shine in his music, drawing primarily from manga for his "real and grounded" narratives. "Romantic Homicide," a song recorded entirely on an iPhone, reached No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and led to d4vd signing to Darkroom/Interscope before d4vd even graduated high school. "Here With Me" followed suit, breaking into the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2023. His debut headline spring tour 'The Root of it All' sold-out within 30 minutes of going on sale. He continues his rise with his newly unveiled first-ever EP Petals To Thorns. The EP establishes d4vd as one of the best new emerging acts, corroborated by his recent Billboard 21 Under 21 honor.
