New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Angie McMahon has announced her new album 'Light, Dark, Light Again' (out October 27 via AWAL) a thirteen-song collection that finds the Australian songwriter processing core-shaking revelations while navigating the uncharted waters she's endured since her 2019 breakout debut 'Salt.' After being compared to "a one-woman Fleetwood Mac" (NPR), winning SXSW's Grulke Prize for Best Developing Act and opening for artists like the Pixies, Father John Misty and Mavis Staples - McMahon returns with a bold acknowledgement, even an embrace, of the uncertain, the temporary and the ever-changing. Her 'Light, Dark, Light Again' collaborators include many of her longtime Australian musician friends, in addition to her co-producer Brad Cook and his frequent Bon Iver collaborators Phil Cook (organ) and Matt McCaughan (drums) - plus Hand Habits' Meg Duffy, Polaris Prize finalist Leif Vollebekk and Jenn Decilveo (Porridge Radio, Lucius). Inspirations range from the writings of Tibetan-Buddhist scholar Pema Chödrön to the music of Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith to the cycles of nature in the expansive Australian skies.

Check out McMahon's new song and video "Letting Go," which centers on a mantra she leaned on when feeling at her lowest: "it's okay, make mistakes." The video was co-directed with Bridgette Winten on Australia's Bunurong and Barapa Barapa Land. Watch here: https://angiemcmahon.ffm.to/letting-go-vid

Angie recently sat down with Nylon to dive deeper into "Letting Go" and 'Light, Dark, Light Again,' which you can read here: https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/angie-mcmahon-letting-go-premiere-new-album

McMahon on "Letting Go": "This song is a place to keep the lessons that I'll keep on needing. Reminders to go easy and gentle, be imperfect, let things leave. I'm always in the process of remembering to release what my brain clings to - thoughts, people, safe zones - and land in the present moment. I recorded this with my band in Melbourne, I was having one of my regular meltdowns, and I was reminded of Eckhart Toll's 'Power of Now' - which feels like a good companion for this track. I hope someone screams 'Letting Go' in the car on an open road somewhere."

'Light, Dark, Light Again' was predominantly written by McMahon in Australia with the help of a tight-knit group of songwriting friends, and was recorded mostly with Cook in North Carolina. McMahon previously shared "Saturn Returning" from the collection in an Origins spotlight feature with Consequence: https://consequence.net/2023/06/angie-mcmahon-saturn-returning-origins/. She'll also return to the US this September for intimate solo dates on her Make Mistakes Tour in New York and Los Angeles. These shows are her first in North America since late 2019; a trip which found her playing to arena-sized crowds on an expansive cross-continent tour with Hozier.
