BOSTON (Voces Consulting) - Ruben Blades, renowned singer, composer, actor, and politician, will receive an honorary doctorate of music from Berklee College of Music President Roger H. Brown tonight for his contributions to Latin music over his lifetime.

The honorary degree recognizes Blades' versatility and renaissance spirit as a man who has recorded over 20 albums, won seven Grammy awards, appeared in 32 films, founded a political party in Panama, and run for President of Panama. His works include the best-selling salsa single in history, Pedro Navaja, and leading roles in such films as The Milagro Beanfield War and the HBO film Dead Man Out - for which he won the Cable ACE Award for Best Actor.

Most recently, Blades was appointed Minister of Tourism for the Republic of Panama by President Martin Torrijos in 2004 (https://www.visitpanama.org). According to Blades, "Panama offers variety to the American traveler. From ecotourism and archaeological tours to specialized trips on bird watching, deep sea fishing, nightlife, shopping, and Casinos, as well as Canal Tours."

In his new role, Blades travels the world, promoting the exciting offerings of a land still undiscovered by many. While in Boston to accept the honorary degree, Blades is also eager to sing the praises of his home country. Panama, an isthmus separating the Atlantic and the Pacific, is located in Central America, with Costa Rica to the north and Colombia to the south. It is easily accessible through major American carriers.

Panama is a country full of spirit that has come into modern life with a powerful impact. It has become the financial center of the Americas, with more than 150 financial institutions. And it has marine resources-and a variety of animal species-seen in no other place in the world.

Besides its numerous tourist attractions, the country offers the convenience of having the dollar as its major currency. Panama is a safe location and was given the highest ranking (along with the United States) for tourist safety from the Pinkerton Intelligence Agency-a global leader in security consulting and investigations, now part of Sweden-based Securitas Group.

Travelers with a pioneering spirit can go to https://www.visitpanama.org to create their own dream visit.
