New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Catalan guitarist and composer Lau Noah has unveiled the final preview from her forthcoming album 'A DOS,' "Siete Lágrimas" featuring special guest and multiple-Grammy-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. The song was written by Lau and features the two singing in Spanish about a bittersweet loss of love. Last month Lau treated listeners to another album highlight, "Lesser Men Would Call iI Love" featuring mandolinist and singer-songwriter Chris Thile, watch the video here. These releases follow "If A Tree Falls In Love With a River" which was released earlier this year and features Jacob Collier. Collaborations with Silvia Perez Cruz, Jorge Drexler, Gaby Moreno, and Salvador Sobral will also be included on 'A DOS'.
Lau on "Siete Lágrimas"- "In the beginning of 2023 I was invited to a dinner party [where] I sat next to Cécile, and we spoke about dragons and love. Afterwards, sitting by the fire we all played songs, and once I finished my turn, Cécile said out loud ¨you're so weird¨, which sounded like the most delightful compliment. It wasn't even two weeks later that I asked her humbly if she'd sing this song with me, and she said yes. We met at Conveyor Studios in NYC and I heard her sing in Spanish for the first time. What a treat... She is a master storyteller, and both my song and I were forever thrilled."
Lau Noah will play Joe's Pub January 23rd to celebrate the release of her album with an extraordinary band and multiple special guests. She will be performing songs from 'A DOS' and her back catalog, tickets are available here.
Lau has garnered the adoration of musicians including Phoebe Bridgers, Moses Sumney, and Ben Folds. Last month Lau made her Royal Albert Hall debut with Folds in London, after being added to his UK/EU tour. When the tour was unexpectedly canceled in its first week, Lau jumped to action, booking a string of headlining dates spanning seven countries in just three days. Appropriately, she dubbed it 'The Resilience Tour.' When not touring or working on her own discography, Noah has worked on TV projects for Warner Bros and has scored numerous award-winning films.
Lau currently lives in NYC but is heavily influenced by her Catalan upbringing, and is praised for her unique style of singing and playing guitar in counterpoint. Her unique approach to music composition has led her to lead workshops and master classes for several music conservatories and Ivy League universities. Lau can also be seen on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert as the first Catalan artist ever to perform for the prestigious series.
"Lau Noah's music somehow defies category while also belonging to various places and times at once. Or maybe she's tapping into the same source that so much great music taps into: the mother melody. It's a sound not quite heard like this before, but something strikingly familiar." - WBGO
