Carminho Releases "O Quarto (Fado Menor)," Full Version Of Song She Performs In Yorgos Lanthimos Film 'Poor Things'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Portuguese singer and songwriter Carminho has released "O quarto (fado Menor)," the full version of the song she performs live in a scene with Emma Stone in Poor Things, the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos. The scene depicts Carminho singing the fado and playing the Portuguese guitar to a mesmerized Bella Baxter, Stone's character in the film.

Poor Things stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo, and just received seven Golden Globe nominations this week, among them best motion picture (musical or comedy) and original score.

At the New York City premiere of Poor Things on December 6, Carminho and Emma Stone surprised the director, cast, and celebrity guests at the after party for the event with a reenactment of the scene. Carminho sang the fado with no microphone or amplification while accompanying herself on the Portuguese guitar.
"When I received the invitation to sing in the film, I could never have imagined this incredible experience in this wonderful and impressive work of art," Carminho says. "What a pride to take fado and the Portuguese language to such a special place, sharing these moments with a unique director and a fabulous team. This participation was born of an invitation from Yorgos to make an appearance singing fado. We chose the song together, which has lyrics written by me for a traditional composition, and which is in dialogue with the atemporal aspect of the film."

Carminho's most recent Latin Grammy-nominated album, Portuguesa, was released in August 2023 in the United States on Nonesuch Records, around the same time that she performed one of her own compositions for the Pope in Lisbon. She was also a guest in the most recent tours of Coldplay and Caetano Veloso in Portugal. The North American release of Portuguesa was followed by an extensive tour of United States and Canada in October. Another tour of North America is being planned in the fall of next year.
