PHILADELPHIA, PA (Top40 Charts) The legendary Ohio Players will take fans on a "rollercoaster" ride of iconic hits when the band comes to Fishtown this month. The pioneers of street funk and underground R&B will perform at Rivers Casino Philadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. in The Event Center. Tickets starting at $29 are now available.
The Ohio Players rose to prominence in the 1970s with hits such as "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster." The band has since produced more than a dozen albums and earned a total of 14 gold and platinum album awards.
The Ohio Players, currently comprised of two original members — James "Diamond" Williams (drums) and Billy Beck (keyboard) — and seven additional musicians, have traveled the world and been recognized by a long list of artists who have sampled or rerecorded their material.
"We're looking forward to a night of dancing and great music with the Ohio Players," said Shannon Redmond, regional vice president of marketing for the casino. "They're such a legendary band, and we can't wait to have them in our Event Center."
In the 1970s, the Ohio Players landed three consecutive platinum albums: "Skin Tight," "Fire" and "Honey." Over the years, the band has had multiple No. 1 singles on various charts, five of them being R&B singles, including "Fire," "Funky Worm" and "Love Rollercoaster."
