New York, NY (Top40 Charts) LA-based singer-songwriter Breymer, aka Sarah Walk (she/they), releases the new single "The Feeling (When I See You)", an ethereal meditation on envy co-written with Ukrainian-American composer Julia Piker, and its accompanying in-studio performance video. This is the latest single from When I Get Through, a strikingly honest exploration of Walk's relationship with gender identity out October 18 via One Little Independent Records. The song was recently spotlighted by Under The Radar, who said, "'The Feeling' finds Breymer occupying a layered, atmospheric space, with their vocals dancing above a spacious blend of keys, bass, and subtle percussion. Their dreamy, soft-focus melodies bloom as the song winds onward, interlacing with lattice-like guitar lines and swirling production. The results feel intimate, yet also lush and full."
"'The Feeling' is about envy, which is an emotion I think everyone fights against but experiences to some degree," shares Walk. "Sometimes, seeing people that embody characteristics I admire or people who have made choices that I wish I had the courage to make comes in the form of inspiration, but sometimes, particularly in weaker moments, it can mask as jealousy or envy. 'Why am I not like that?' I think recognizing how closely these emotions can exist helped me uncover the truth about what I wanted my body to look like, and the lengths at which denial can go to cover it up in the form of envy or judgment."
Breymer will celebrate the release of the LP with three special album shows in New York City, Los Angeles and their hometown of Minneapolis. These performances will feature multidisciplinary visual art by Santo Jacobsson and Marco DaSilva among others, and sales from all three of these events will go towards gender affirming care. The LA show will be in collaboration with lesbian natural wine bar The Ruby Fruit, and the NYC show will be hosted by trans comedian Jes Tom.
Recorded with GRAMMY-winning producer Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Margaret Glaspy), When I Get Through guides us through Walk's journey of self-discovery which is a testament to the strength of its lead - someone willing not just to make the choice, but to document the emotional experience in its entirety. Last month, Breymer released the pulsing single "Better Friend," which Queerty called "an introspective exploration of friendship." The track followed previous singles "Medication," a piano-driven reflection on prescription pill culture which was featured by Ones To Watch on their #NowWatching playlist, hypnotic statement of intent "Wrong Path" and the tender dedication to Walk's wife "Darkness."
These songs are the first new music Walk has released since last year's hypnotic single "My Body" and Walk's appearance on the soundtrack for the Apple Original series The Buccaneers, which featured a star-studded tracklist including Sharon Van Etten, Miya Folick, Gracie Abrams, AVAWAVES and more. Her previous releases have earned her praise from Under The Radar, The Line of Best Fit and KUTX-FM who raved "she can give the likes of Imogen Heap and Florence and the Machine a run for their money."
