New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, electro-pop heavyweight Lights releases her emotional return "DAMAGE." The track, written and produced by Lights, is the first official release from her forthcoming album, due in 2025.
In this new era, Lights further embraces her favourite darkwave influences, with a musical direction that will be welcomed by her pop and indie-alt fans alike. "DAMAGE" is a fitting first listen from the self-proclaimed "happiest sad girl."
She explains the psychological duality behind the song: "In the last few years I've found myself exploring which parts of my identity are really me, and which are a response to the way we've all been conditioned by our present circumstances, whether it's shaped by the incredible pressures of social media, or by modern expectations. Sometimes I step back and think 'I swear this isn't me!'"
The video shows Lights chopping off her long hair, physically and symbolically letting go of the 'damage'.
Tomorrow, Lights will perform a tribute to Sarah MacLachlan, to celebrate Sarah's induction to the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
With over 480 million streams worldwide, the four-time JUNO Award winner is a true pop superstar with a catalog beloved by fans and critics alike.
Lights is many things all at once: Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Multi-instrumentalist. Comic book author. DJ. Artist. She's also unabashedly honest and unapologetically confident. Weaving in and out of alternative, indie, electronic, and dance, she makes manic pop irreverent of boundaries, yet reverent of truth. She speaks her heart musically and her mind lyrically. It's why her shadow over alternative music and culture continues to grow with streams in the hundreds of millions and widespread critical acclaim. She has sold out tours on multiple continents, made headlines from Coachella to Comic-Con, and powered collaborations with Travis Barker, deadmau5, Kaskade, Illenium, Steve Aoki, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and more.
