(SONY BMG MUSIC Entertainment) - New kid on the block John Legend is taking it up to the big shots - the neo-soulster is tied with Mariah Carey and his own album producer Kanye West for the most nominations at the 48th Grammy Awards. John is up for a massive eight awards including Song Of The Year and Best New Artist. With his debut album 'Get Lifted' scoring award nominations left, right and centre, piano-playing sensation John Legend is proving that he has one very long and very successful career ahead of him. Now, he's in line to take home one of the very big ones - a Grammy Award. Check out all the categories he's been nominated in:

Best Male R&B Vocal Performance - 'Ordinary People'

"To be nominated this many times is really big for my career," John told Billboard.com. "It's inspiring, and it lets you know that if you do the right thing, you can succeed."

As the accolades and awards continue to pour in for 'Get Lifted', John says he is gearing up for the follow-up to his brilliant debut album.

"This validates the work and it inspires me to go work some more. I want to go make another album and try to beat this one," he told Billboard. "I put pressure on myself, but not with the awards. Creatively, I want to be the best I can and make the best music I can make [and] give my fans something they really love."

Other artists nominated for Grammy Awards include Kelly Clarkson, Ciara, Maroon 5, Foo Fighters, Shakira, Burt Bacharach, Fiona Apple, Deep Dish, Fatboy Slim, Carly Simon, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Franz Ferdinand, System Of A Down, Mudvayne, Amerie, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Mario, Usher, Destiny's Child, Omarion and Gretchen Wilson.
