Chicago into MTV content, for those people in and around Chicago, it is the underground college radio and vinyl network that keeps real heads tuned in and staying creative. As the host of CTA
Radio on WHPK for the past 6 years, DJ, b-boy, emcee and graf writer Pugs Atomz has seen the rise of
Chicago artists such as No I.D.,
Common and
Rhymefest to name a few, hosting them on his radio program and helping to break their records.
On February 21, 2006 Raptivism Records will release a unique compilation encapsulating the experience of Chi City scene: 'Pugs Atomz Presents CTA Radio Chi City Hip Hop'. This album is a reconstruction of Pugs' seminal South Side radio show that airs every Wednesday from 9-12am on WHPK 88.5 in Chicago, and features freestyles, exclusive tracks, drops, and unexpected appearances.
For those in Chicago, this is long-awaited. For those outside, this is a unique first-hand experience of a Chi Town hip hop radio show, with some of their best emcees around town including tracks from Lupe Fiasco (Mean and Vicious), Common and Abstract Mind (Nostalgia), and Rhymefest (Dynomite). Also, many of the young artists bubbling under the surface of the Chi City scene will be featured heavily on the album. Vinyl celebrities like Iomos Marad, Akbar, and Masshisteria will get a chance to be heard on a national scale by those who are only familiar with Kanye and others.
'Pugs Atomz Presents CTA Radio Chi City Hip Hop' is an amazing, pioneering cd that will have people from Chicago and beyond wanting to hear more from the fertile scene and the creative Pugs Atomz.
