LOS ANGELES (Suburban Noize Records) - MOWER's LA Sessions with Doling had everything From Rex of Pantera Advising on Bass Tone, Recording with 'Dimebag's' Wah Pedals, To Drinks with Wayne of
Static-X Mikey Doling was a member of punk legends Snot when he first met Dominic Moscatello (Vocals) and Chris McCredie (Bass) of San Diego's hard rock quintet, Mower. The pair were still members of The Undecided, a punk band from Colorado.
"Most bands are happy enough to meet one of their favorite bands once, so it was awesome for Mower to share the stage with Mikey and Soulfly, and then go on to record a CD with him. This is a true highlight in our band's career," comments vocalist Brian Sheerin.
From the minute Doling signed on to produce Not For You, Mower's second full-length release on Suburban Noize Records, every day brought unforgettable experiences with it. If the fact that he had befriended them and liked their music wasn't enough, Mower's time with Doling allowed them to encounter heroes from incredible bands at every turn. Whether it was Rex Brown from Pantera stopping by the studio to provide input on getting the best bass tones or Roy Mayorga from Soulfly making adjustments to drummer Ryan Toth's kit. It was all mind-blowing for the San Diego outfit.
"We would all go out partying in Los Angeles and would run into Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust on Sunset. We had the chance to thank him for watching our set at the Œ99 Warped Tour in Del Mar. Then we see Lemmy from Motorhead at The Rainbow and tell him that 1916 is a sick album. A drink with Wayne from Static-X at The Troubadour was next where we discussed everything from t-shirts to De Niro films." Sheerin continues, "It was just this great vibe that felt like we were taking a big step with this CD".
It didn't end with the people that surrounded Doling, the whole recording experience was filled with great omens. Like when Mower guitarist Matt Wannamaker recorded parts with one of 'Dimebag' Darrell's wah pedals or laying down tracks with Mikey's customized "SNOT" guitar, to getting a call from legendary The Mamas and The Papas producer Lou Adler as they were recording "California Dreaming."
"In addition to his easygoing style and creative input, Mikey let us inside the history of one of our favorite bands (Snot) with stories you'd never see in a metal magazine." explains Sheerin.
McCredie adds in closing, "It should be noted that Mower, Mikey and Brad Dujmovic (Engineer) all coined the new recording term "Rap Snacks" during the Not For You sessions, which refers to adding sound effects to a song. It (Rap Snacks) can be used to describe both cool effects and really lame effects".
Not For You, the eclectic album that emerged from this pairing will be available in stores April 4, 2006 on Suburban Noize Records.
