LOS ANGELES (Nettwerk Records) - THE WEEPIES aren't shedding any tears this week. Both their new album, SAY I AM YOU, and song, "World Spins Madly On," peaked at No 1 on the iTunes US folk chart-a genre that also includes artists like Bob Dylan,
KT Tunstall and
Damien Rice. As a result, Say I Am You (March 7) broke onto the iTunes album chart at No 70.
In December, Nettwerk Records digitally pre-released Say I Am You, The Weepies' first major album and follow up to 2003's Happiness. Since then, it has reached No 1 on the iTunes folk/roots chart in 8 countries.
"We're thrilled at the reaction the CD has gotten so far," says Steve Tannen.
Confident, lyrical and accessible, Say I Am You has the taste of a classic pop album. With sunny, hook-laden tunes like "Take It From Me" and "Gotta Have You," lush meditations like "Citywide Rodeo," dark charmers like "Suicide Blonde," and new-standard melodies like "Nobody Knows Me At All," the recording is a delight from start to finish.
In support of the release, the band is looking forward to hitting the road for a US spring tour in early April: "We're excited to go on tour with this record," says Deb Talan. "Performing live is a part of the mystical engine that keeps the crazy 'life-as-musicians' train running."
The Weepies-DEB TALAN (vocals/guitar) and STEVE TANNEN (vocals/guitar)-are two unique voices and one unforgettable sound. Both had prolific solo careers and were longtime mutual admirers. They finally met when New York-based Tannen played a show in Talan's hometown of Boston. They began writing together the first night they met, a night that has lasted 4 years so far.
