LONDON, UK (U2.com) - U2 guitarist The Edge went to England last week to help celebrate the 60th birthday of physicist Stephen Hawking.

The author of A Brief History of Time, a theory about the creation and end of the world.

Hawking held his birthday celebration at Cambridge University, where he's been a professor since 1979. "I am a very interested amateur who wanted to come along and learn something about the state of the art," reads a posting by The Edge on U2's web site. "So far I have learnt a lot."
