Ashlee Simpson will host the MTV Australia Video
Music Awards 2006 (MTV AVMAs) to be held at Sydney SuperDome on April 12th. It's a double of firsts for Ashlee as her appearance in Sydney marks her debut career visit to Australia and her first time as host of an MTV Awards event.
With nominations for two MTV Awards, Best Female Artist and Best Pop Video, Ashlee joins the coveted line-up of stars to attend the MTV AVMAs, including some of the world's hottest artists - The Darkness, The Veronicas, James Blunt and End of Fashion are all set to perform at the celebrity-filled event.

With her own successful reality program on MTV, The Ashlee Simpson Show, documenting the process of making her first album, Autobiography (Universal), Ashlee's debut album went on to achieve over triple platinum sales globally. The release of her second album, I Am Me (Universal), followed in October 2005, featuring hit singles Boyfriend and L.O.V.E. At this years MTV AVMAs, Ashlee not only holds the coveted hosting gig but will also treat her fans to her first live and exclusive Australian performance with her girl's-night-out party anthem, L.O.V.E.
The MTV AVMAs nominations list includes 13 viewer-voted categories; Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Spankin' New Artist, Best Group, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video, Best Rock Video, Best R&B Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and the Viewers Choice Award, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers. The final category is the Free Your Mind Award, whose winner is chosen exclusively by MTV Australia to highlight humanitarian issues and encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice.
Voting for the MTV AVMAs is now open and closes on Friday 31 March. MTV viewers can cast their vote by logging on to mtv.com.au/avma or by simply sending an SMS with the word 'vote' to 191MTV and following the prompts.
Winners will be announced at the MTV AVMAs on Wednesday 12th April, 2006 which is telecast live on MTV, kicking off with all the action from the red carpet at 7pm.
