Sydney, AU. (Universal Music Australia) - Ashlee Simpson will host the MTV Australia Video Music Awards 2006 (MTV AVMAs) to be held at Sydney SuperDome on April 12th. It's a double of firsts for Ashlee as her appearance in Sydney marks her debut career visit to Australia and her first time as host of an MTV Awards event.

'We are thrilled to have Ashlee Simpson as host of the second annual MTV AVMAs. A multi-talented international star, Ashlee will inject her own distinctly fresh and youthful edge to the show.', commented Nigel Robbins, President, MTV Networks Asia-Pacific and Acting Managing Director, MTV Networks Australia.

With her own successful reality program on MTV, The Ashlee Simpson Show, documenting the process of making her first album, Autobiography (Universal), Ashlee's debut album went on to achieve over triple platinum sales globally. The release of her second album, I Am Me (Universal), followed in October 2005, featuring hit singles Boyfriend and L.O.V.E. At this years MTV AVMAs, Ashlee not only holds the coveted hosting gig but will also treat her fans to her first live and exclusive Australian performance with her girl's-night-out party anthem, L.O.V.E.
