Miami, FL (GROOVECRAFT PRODUCTIONS) - Miami R&B/Jazz/Rock band
Sophia Darcell announced Wednesday that it will release its 2nd studio album - and first since 2001 - in early June. The CD entitled 'Soul Eclectic' is also its first release on its new label, GrooveCraft Productions.
The album's first single, "Charades," will be made available to Internet radio stations March 13, and the same day the song will be available as a free download from the band's Web site, https://www.sophiadarcell.com. The jazzy uptempo R&B track about an international playboy is certain to appeal to Brand New Heavies, No Doubt, and Sade Fans alike.
Currently touring throughout the Southeast, promoting the first single release 'Charades', Sophia Darcell makes an impressive return to the urban music scene with a marked departure from the melancholic acoustic songs of 'Love=Pain' back in 2001.
Although the depressive ballads on 'Love=Pain' earned Sophia rave press reviews in South East Performer Magazine, Creative Loafing Atlanta, Splendidezine.com, etc., in addition to performances everywhere from Hard Rock Café to Phillips Arena, it's obvious the songstress/producer rebounds this time around with more socially conscious songs, backed by up tempo Urban Afro-Caribbean grooves, and a decidedly different attitude concerning life and affairs of the heart.
Joined by Eric Escanes (Guitar), Charles Silva (Percussion), Dave Gabillet (Drums), Kenneth Williams (Bass), and Jon Pau (Keyboards), Sophia Darcell's comeback is nothing ordinary. Together their smooth fusion of Jazz, Rock, Funk, and R&B bring to mind Brit-Soul bands like Les Nubians, and Incognito.
Additional tour dates in support of "Sophia Darcell" will be announced later this month, the band said in a news release.
