Sydney, AU (Universal Music Australia) - Local favourite Bernard Fanning is the latest instalment of performers locked in for the MTV Australia Video Music Awards (MTV AVMAs) at Sydney SuperDome on April 12.

Embarking on its second year, the MTV AVMAs promises to deliver a top line-up of Australian and International acts including The Darkness, Ashlee Simpson, James Blunt, The Veronicas, End of Fashion, Savage, Lee Harding and the Rogue Traders to be telecast live on MTV from 7pm.

Bernard Fanning has created a highly successful solo career with the release of his album 'Tea and Sympathy' which debuted on the Australian charts at No 1. With its rock-infused country-style, the album's first single, 'Wish You Well', has gone triple platinum. Bernard's recent national tour, 'Which Way Home?', was a sell-out and has set the tone for his highly anticipated performance at this years MTV AVMAs.
Special guest presenters include Stephanie McIntosh, Matthew Johns and Big Brother reality TV host Gretel Killeen.

The MTV AVMAs nominations list includes 13 viewer-voted categories; Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Spankin' New Artist, Best Group, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video, Best Rock Video, Best R&B Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and the Viewers Choice Award, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers. The final category is the Free Your Mind Award, whose winner is chosen exclusively by MTV Australia to highlight humanitarian issues and encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice.

Voting for the MTV AVMAs is now open, and closes on Friday 31 March, with more than 1 million votes already in. MTV viewers can cast their vote by logging on to mtv.com.au/avma or by simply sending an SMS with the word 'vote' to 191MTV and following the prompts.
Winners will be announced at the MTV AVMAs on Wednesday 12th April, 2006 which is telecast live, kicking off with all the action from the red carpet at 7pm.
