BURBANK, CA (Warner Bros. Records) - Soulful pop singer
Daniel Powter will appear live singing his chart-topping hit "
Bad Day" on the May 23rd final performance night of the fifth season of "American Idol" on FOX. The infectious piano-driven single has been played numerous times over the show's closing montage this season.
"Bad Day," which was the Number One most played song in Europe last year, currently sits at Number Two on Billboard's Hot 100, and held the top spot for five weeks. It is now reaching more than 115 million listeners at radio. In addition, the single was the most digitally downloaded track on iTunes for six weeks and has sold more than 1 million copies to date.
That number will undoubtedly climb when Powter performs live on "American Idol" when the final two contestants battle it out live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood to claim the winner's crown. This season has been enormously popular, drawing an average of 30 million viewers each week.
In addition to being heard on "American Idol," Powter has also made a slew of high-profile TV appearances, including "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "The Today Show," "Ellen DeGeneres" and "Live with Regis and Kelly." The video for "Bad Day" is currently in XXL rotation on VH1, receiving 30 plays a week.
Powter's self-titled debut album, which was released on April 11th and debuted at No 9, was produced by Mitchell Froom, who is known for his work with Elvis Costello, Crowded House, and Randy Newman, as well as being co-produced by Vancouver's Jeff Dawson. A mini-tour of the U.S. is currently being planned for the beginning of July.
