BURBANK, CA (Walt Disney Records) - Walt Disney Records responds to overwhelming demand from "
High School Musical" fans with the release of a comprehensive 2-disc "High School Musical Special Edition Soundtrack" on May 23, 2006.
Following up on the record-breaking, double-platinum success of the original "High School Musical" soundtrack, the first disc showcases the wildly popular music from the Disney Channel Original Movie musical and B5's hip-hop version of "Get'cha Head in the Game." New to the disc is the full-length B5 music video, accessible through computer ROM drives.
The special edition's second CD+Graphic (CD+G) disc answers the popular request for sing-along tracks with karaoke versions for eight of the musical's most popular songs including "Breaking Free," "We're All in This Together" and "Start of Something New." The CD+G is playable in both CD players and traditional karaoke machines.
The "High School Musical Special Edition Soundtrack" package also includes complete song lyrics, a bonus double-sided locker poster and, in a Walt Disney Records' first, a certificate for an exclusive, free "Get'cha Head in the Game" ringtone.
The original "High School Musical Soundtrack" is the No 1 best-selling album of the year (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and was certified double platinum by the R.I.A.A just 10 weeks after its release. The soundtrack twice has claimed the No 1 position on Billboard's Top 200 (March 1st and March 26th), as well as reigning atop both the Billboard Soundtrack and Kids Charts.
"High School Musical" has generated one platinum single, "Breaking Free," and five gold singles - "What I've Been Looking For," "We're All in This Together," "Start of Something New," "Get'cha Head in the Game" and "Stick to the Status Quo."
A contemporary "break into song" blockbuster musical comedy, ratings juggernaut "High School Musical" tells the story of two teens who must learn to believe in themselves despite the polarization of high school cliques. "High School Musical" stars Ashley Tisdale of Disney Channel's original series "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," Zac Efron of The WB's "Summerland," Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel.
Over the course of its twelve telecasts on Disney Channel (January 20-April 21, 2006), "High School Musical" reached 36.5 million unique total viewers (persons 2+), 20.1 million households, 10.3 million kids 6-11 and 11.1 million tweens 9-14.
The "High School Musical" DVD and "High School Musical Special Edition Soundtrack" both are scheduled for release on May 23. The special edition soundtrack will be available for a suggested retail price of $18.98 wherever music is sold.
