Chili Peppers continue their hold on the top of the Billboard Top 200 Album chart next week as "
Stadium Arcadium" not only scores the band's first No 1 album in the U.S., but extends its reign for a remarkable second week.
"Whoo Hoo!!!!!" the band said gleefully. "If we'd known that double records sold so well, we would have done one years ago!!"
Red Hot Chili Peppers' ninth studio album, "Stadium Arcadium," is a generous two-CD set with 28 songs. Produced by longtime collaborator Rick Rubin, it released May 9 on Warner Bros. Records.
"Stadium Arcadium" has also racked up 27 No 1 album chart positions worldwide: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, plus Billboard's Eurochart.
Adding to its already impressive collection of No 1 modern rock and rock tracks, the current single, "Dani California," has been No 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart since it was released April 4 - Monday will be eight weeks in a row. "Dani California" is supported by a video directed by Tony Kaye ("American History X") which portrays an entire history of rock n' roll in 4:46 min.
As Q magazine observed: the "Red Hot Chili Peppers are going from strength to audacious strength."
Red Hot Chili Peppers will launch their Stadium Arcadium World Tour in Barcelona, Spain on May 30. The band returns to the United States to headline the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago August 4-6, and then kick off the North American leg of their World Tour on August 11 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland OR, continuing through November 5 at Excel Arena in Minneapolis.
