Sydney, AU (Universal Music Australia) - The Grates are continuing to get high on their own supply after their album, 'Gravity Won't Get You High', debuted at No. 9 on the ARIA charts and saw their national headline tour sold out across the country. They have now been nominated for the highly coveted J Award.

'We're so happy to be nominated, we feel like the mumma chicken who hatched the swan! Rock-a-doodle-doo and thank you!' says Patience of the nomination.

'There will not be a catchier collection of alternapop released this year… a thrilling rollercoaster of a ride, which will have you doing star jumps within 30 seconds.'
Kathy McCabe, Daily Telegraph, April 13, ****

Currently on tour with The Zutons in the UK, The Grates will be releasing their LP through Dew Process/Polydor in the UK on July 10. Infectious single, '19 20 20' has already had support from Radio 1, MTV2 and XFM and will be commercially available in the UK from July 3 with a B-Side of 'Slide' released on CD single and online and live favourite 'Inside Outside' released on special edition 7'.

'There's something startlingly original and enjoyable about this much-anticipated full-length debut, thanks to a bunch of insistent, angular and often frenetic punk-pop tunes.'
Iain Shedden, Weekend Australian, April 8, ****

The Grates will then play a series of headline NME club shows and a preview party at 93 Ft East before returning to the USA for a series of shows in Toronto, Montreal, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. 'Gravity Won't Get You High' will be released in the USA through Dew Process/Cherrytree/Interscope in August.

'There are balloons everywhere, shout-outs to puppies and short people, and there is dancing. Oh yes, there is dancing. Hair-shaking, nose-scrunching, jitter-bugging trouble shrugging I-know-I-just-met-you-but-let's-be-friends-forever crazy happy dancing…A contender for gig of the year.'
Clare Fletcher, Rave, May 16

The Grates return to Australia in July to play Splendour In The Grass before touring NZ and Australia with the UK's hottest exports The Artic Monkeys. Check out thegrates.com for tour details.
