BURBANK, CA (By Liz Rosenberg/ Warner Bros. Records) - Jessi Malay, a multi-talented stunning urban-pop singer and dancer from L.A. has teamed up with
Lil Scrappy on her club friendly new single "
Gimme" from her upcoming Reprise Records debut.
"Gimme," produced by Jonathan "JR" Rotem, the noted hitmaker who has worked with Rihanna, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg, is scheduled to hit urban radio and clubs at the end of August.
"Scrappy is one talented and crazy boy," laughs Malay, whose music works a playfully provocative blend of sultry R&B vocal stylings, hip-hop edginess and indelible pop smarts. "His energy and personality were a perfect fit and JR is the magic man behind it all," concluded Malay.
Malay's new CD also includes a list of collaborators that reads like an R&B who's who. Jessi duets with crooner Trey Songz and NY underground rapper Gravy, and works with leading producers like Styles of Dangerous LLC (50 Cent), "Jay E" Epperson (Nelly) and Mateo Laboriel (Jamie Foxx).
The 19 year old is a veteran performer who began dancing at age 2, joined a professional ballet company at 6, started singing at 9, entertained the crowds at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney Australia at age 12 and had a hit single with her all-female teen-pop group No Secrets by 14.
Influenced and inspired by Damien Marley, Usher, John Legend, T.I., Shakira, Aaliyah, Kelis and Gwen Stefani, young Jessi is currently rehearsing for upcoming appearances with white-hot choreographer Mikey Minden (Pussycat Dolls). "People will truly get what I'm about when they see me perform," she says. "It's a really good balance of smooth, urban hip-hop, kind of sexy with a strong female message from me, but mostly I want my audiences to have fun with my music."
