ARLINGTON, Va. (USO) - Platinum-selling rock band Shinedown will bring its unique sound to Fort Bliss, Texas, Aug. 17, performing for military personnel on a USO tour. The group - which has scored six consecutive top five rock radio hit singles - also will meet and greet service members.

hinedown consists of drummer Barry Kerch, guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart and lead singer Brent Smith. The band released its second Atlantic Records album, "Us and Them," in October 2005. Their first single, "Save Me," held the No. 1 position on active rock charts for 12 weeks and went on to top every rock radio format chart.
Their follow-up single, "I Dare You," also scored top 5 success, with their latest single, "Heroes," already following suit. The band's 2003 debut, "Leave A Whisper," was certified platinum with sales exceeding one million units. Shinedown has spent most of 2006 on the road, and will be embarking on a tour with Godsmack and Rob Zombie later this month.

The performance will coincide with the opening of the USO's newest center at Fort Bliss. With more than 120 centers around the world - providing free e-mail and Internet access, international phone cards, libraries and travel assistance - USO centers provide support to service members as well as their families left behind.

The tour also continues the USO tradition of bringing entertainment to service members serving far from home. Celebrities who have made recent trips for the USO include Josh Gracin, Gary Sinise, Master P, STAIND and La Mafia.
