NEW YORK, NY (By
Amber Haeckel/ Rykodisc) - U.K. dance rockers Ladytron will embark on a lengthy North American tour, dubbed the Sugar Tour, beginning Wednesday,
September 20th at Studio A, in Miami, FL, following up their sold-out 2006
Spring tour. The Sugar Tour coincides with the current radio push for the track "
Sugar" from the critically acclaimed "Witching Hour" album. Joining Ladytron throughout the tour will be the Sao Paolo, Brazil-based sensation CSS.
"Witching Hour" has been hailed as Ladytron's breakthrough album, one that fizzes and sparks with the band's own idiosyncratic charms. Entertainment Weekly declares that "Witching Hour" "has supremely catchy songs that burst with life." With luminescent melodies and icy vocals, "Witching Hour" combines a certain somberness with danceable licks backed by synthed-out guitars, live drums and deep emotion. Earning numerous accolades, "Witching Hour" made its way onto several 'End of Year' lists including: Pitchfork, Filter, URB, Remix, and several others.
Since the 2005 release of "Witching Hour," the band has found themselves in high demand having finished remixes for Portishead, Blondie, She Wants Revenge, Ursula 1000, The Cities, Bloc Party and Gang of Four. The hit single "Destroy Everything You Touch" can be heard on the new EA Sports game "Need For Speed," and was featured on the recent MTV Movie Awards. The new single "Sugar" was serviced to radio on the "Thinking XXX" soundtrack and went straight to No 1 with very little push. They also have spankin' new videos for both "Destroy Everything You Touch," and "Sugar."
Spring 2006 also saw the release of "Extended Play," featuring exclusive remixes of five songs from the "Witching Hour" album plus three "Witching Hour" B-sides previously unreleased in the U.S. The release also contains a 35-minute bonus DVD featuring two music videos and a behind-the-scenes look at Ladytron's tour of China.
