NEW YORK, NY. (Universal Republic Records) - Who says you can't reward 'extreme behavior.' Rock's hottest new 'bad boys,' Universal Republic rock band
Hinder got more than a pat on the back this week, with their Extreme Behavior album being certified Gold by the RIAA for shipment of 500,000 copies. The raucous debut effort has benefited from non-stop touring from the Oklahoma fivesome, including a June trek through Canada with
Boston band Godsmack, and a much celebrated 3 month juggernaut with
Nickelback through September.
The band's current single, the world-weary ballad "Lips Of An Angel", has ruled rock radio with Yahoo and VH1 now embracing the enigmatic new video - Yahoo kicked off the world premier on July 24 and VH1 has placed Hinder in their "You Oughta Know" campaign, whose past artists have included James Blunt, Joss Stone, Keane and most recently KT Tunstall.
Both the single and the album continue to draw raves for furthering the defiant band's "arena-rock" stature and the group's loyal fan base have responded, as well. Extreme Behavior is perched at a lofty No 7 on the Billboard Alternative Album Chart, and No 20 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. The disc has also become a fan favorite in the digital world, with Hinder notching the No 10 most popular spot on Myspace.com, and No 5 of all Top Rock Artists, averaging more than 160,000 views a week.
Hinder exploded on to the rock scene last fall with their debut album Extreme Behavior, achieving the rare feat of claiming the top spot on Billboard's Heatseekers chart twice in 2006. The group's lively brand of unapologetic, straight-up rock n' roll - with a little decadence thrown in - has garnered comparisons to gritty peers such as Puddle Of Mud and '70's rock icons Bad Company and even the Rolling Stones. Hinder formed nearly five years ago, touring their Oklahoma turf and beyond as they built up their rep as the kind of guitar-edged, take-no-prisoners road warriors that once ruled all of hard rock.
