NEW YORK (Summer Obsession Official Website) - Virgin debut band THE SUMMER OBSESSION is adding to its busy tour schedule a series of mall-based
Simon D-Tour 2006 dates, all of them noontime 30-minute sets with fan Q-and-A following. Nine national brands, including
Seventeen Magazine, Visa, Sprite, L'Oreal and Verizon, and twenty teen-targeted retailers participate in promoting the events, along with local radio. Over $1.1 million in associated media buying will support the events, including radio time buys, website banners and in-mall media. The concerts draw an average of 2,600 young listeners.
TSO will release the album THIS IS WHERE YOU BELONG on Virgin Records on August 29, 2006, following a year of intensive touring, preceded July 25th by the single and video coming-of-age tale "Do You Remember." THE SUMMER OBSESSION is: Luke, on keyboards and vocals; Chris, formerly of Good Charlotte, on drums and "shenanigans;" Fin, on guitar and vocals; and Christ, on bass. Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, P!nk) produced the album, and Ryan Williams engineered (OutKast, Rage Against the Machine).
So far this summer, TSO has played a week of live dates on the Vans Warped Tour, followed by two coastal swings, and starting mid-August, purevolume.com is sponsoring a third tour series on the east coast, with Bottom Line. Reaching far beyond the road and into homes everywhere, THE SUMMER OBSESSION is also an online fan magnet, with over 500,000 audio streams generated from the TSO myspace.com page (www.myspace.com/thesummerobsession) so far, and a "Friends" list of over 25,000.
Two early TSO tracks, "Death Said," and "Disappear," were featured in the 100,000-copy run of a compilation CD created as a free gift for first buyers of the teen female-directed science fiction Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever, written by America's top-selling author, James Patterson. The book was No. 1 on the New York Times Children's Best Sellers book chart, and No. 12 in USA Today consolidated fiction/non-fiction best-selling book chart, while Patterson's co-written novel Beach Road has topped every major fiction best-seller list. TSO release information was tagged to all book advertising at point of purchase, print, radio and online.
