NEW YORK, NY (Atlantic Records) - Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has unveiled details of their upcoming fall tour. Having spent much of the past two years on the road, the band is set to perform their third and final North American tour in support of their Grammy nominated album, "PLANS" (see attached itinerary).
The Seattle-based quartet will launch their six-week tour just outside Philadelphia at the Tower Theater on October 26th. The tour will then traverse the United States and Canada through December 9th, with Death Cab set to play their biggest-ever hometown show at Seattle's Key Arena. As ever, the tour will see Death Cab supported by some of today's best and brightest indie artists, with special guests including Ted Leo + Pharmacists, OK Go, and Jenny Lewis. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting Thursday, September 7 through the band's website (www.deathcabforcutie.com).
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark," the latest single from "PLANS," is shaping up as another radio success. The track is currently a top 30 favorite at both Alternative and Triple AAA radio. In addition, the song's companion video - filmed in Romania with director Jamie Thraves (Coldplay, Radiohead) - is among the top 20 Most Played clips at VH1. Death Cab for Cutie will perform "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on September 25th.
Death Cab spent the summer on the road playing such North American, European, and Australian festivals as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Roskilde, T In the Park, and Splendour In the Grass, as well as a number of headline dates. Variety magazine called the first of two headline shows at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles "phenomenal" and went on to label them "a band now possessed by a confidence that befits the strong, heartfelt material they play."
Earlier this year, Death Cab for Cutie released "DIRECTIONS," an innovative DVD anthology of short films inspired by every song on "PLANS." Each film on the long form collection - which includes the hit singles, "Soul Meets Body" and "Crooked Teeth," as well as two bonus videos of unreleased songs - was helmed by a different director, spanning well-known music video directors to as-yet-unheralded independent filmmakers.
Death Cab for Cutie is: Ben Gibbard: vocals, guitars, keyboards, Chris Walla: guitars, keyboards, Nick Harmer: bass, Jason McGerr: drums.
